Raki Distilling Vessels

Previous page   Next page

Throumba. A large pithos with a wide mouth and two reinforced holes through which passes the loulas, a copper tube for the alcohol vapours. The throumba contains renewable cold water which cools the vapour and condenses the raki (tsikoudia), which flows into a special clay vessel. It is also called a roumba.

Kouroupi for tsikoudia. A 10-litre vessel for the raki from the still, with two handles and a spout.

Flat still lid. This looks like an upside-down beehive with a cylindrical protuberance attached to the loulas. A low-cost clay copy of the copper still lid.

Concave still lid. A clay object similar to the above, a faithful copy of the copper still lid.
